Celebrating 7 Years of Sittruli: Marking Our Greatest Achievements [17.08.2024]

As we celebrate seven successful years of Sittruli, it’s a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve undertaken and the milestones that have defined our path. Each year has brought new challenges, achievements, and memories that have shaped us into the thriving community we are today.

1. Establishment and Growth of Sittruli

Sittruli started as a small initiative with a big dream: to empower individuals with disabilities through the sport of wheelchair basketball. From the beginning, our focus has been on inclusivity, teamwork, and breaking down barriers. Over the years, we have grown from a single team to multiple teams across different regions, creating opportunities for many to experience the joy and camaraderie of the sport.

2. Recognition in the South Zone Wheelchair Basketball Championship

One of our most significant achievements has been our consistent participation and success in the South Zone Wheelchair Basketball Championship. Our players have not only competed but have also excelled, with teams from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, and Pondicherry recognizing our strength on the court. We’ve seen our players secure top positions, making Sittruli a name to reckon with in the wheelchair basketball community.

 3. Empowerment of Women in Wheelchair Basketball

In recent years, we’ve made significant strides in empowering women athletes. The establishment of women’s teams and their participation in major tournaments has been a highlight. We’ve also been working diligently to secure accommodations in Erode, allowing our women players to train and compete with the best facilities available. This focus on female empowerment has been a cornerstone of our mission, and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made.

4. Training Camps and Expert Coaching

Our commitment to excellence has driven us to continuously improve our training programs. The introduction of expert fitness trainers like Usha in our Coimbatore camp has elevated the level of preparation our players receive. These training camps have become breeding grounds for talent, helping our players hone their skills, improve their fitness, and develop the mental toughness needed to compete at the highest levels.

5. Community Engagement and Support

The success of Sittruli is not just about winning matches; it’s also about building a strong community. Our volunteer network, including the Vellalar NCC, has played a crucial role in supporting our players during tournaments and events. Whether it’s helping with logistics, providing moral support, or assisting in the day-to-day operations, our volunteers are the backbone of Sittruli. Their dedication has allowed us to expand our reach and impact more lives.

6. Honoring Our Heroes

Recognition and celebration of our players’ achievements have been central to our community. A recent highlight is the upcoming plan to honor Imran during the Independence Day celebrations in Erode. Imran’s representation of the state team in the South Zone Championship is a testament to his hard work and dedication. The event, where the Collector will present him with a state certificate, is not just a personal milestone for Imran but also a proud moment for all of Sittruli.

7. Innovations and New Techniques

Innovation has always been at the heart of Sittruli’s training philosophy. Over the years, we’ve introduced new techniques and strategies to stay ahead of the competition. Our training sessions are not just about physical fitness but also about mental agility and tactical awareness. Learning new tricks, adapting to evolving game strategies, and continuously seeking to improve are part of what makes Sittruli a formidable force on the court.

Looking Forward

As we look back on these seven years, we also look forward to the future with hope and determination. There’s still so much more to achieve, more lives to touch, and more barriers to break. The road ahead is filled with opportunities, and with the strong foundation we’ve built, we are ready to take on new challenges.

Sittruli’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, teamwork, and community support. We thank everyone who has been part of this incredible journey—our players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, and fans. Here’s to many more years of success, growth, and making a difference in the world of wheelchair basketball.

Sittruli Wheelchair Basketball Team: Practicing Amidst the Spine Conference at Ganga Hospitals

Last Sunday, Ganga Hospitals hosted a prestigious spine conference for physiotherapists, attracting professionals from across the state. This significant event aimed to enhance knowledge and collaboration within the field of physiotherapy. In a wonderful convergence of sports and medical expertise, the Ganga management invited our wheelchair basketball team to hold an early practice session, giving the attendees an opportunity to witness our athletes in action.

Early Practice Session

To accommodate the conference schedule, our practice session was rescheduled to start earlier at 3:30 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Our players, undeterred by the change, showed up with their usual enthusiasm and dedication. The early session was not just an adjustment in timing but also a chance to showcase the strength, skill, and determination of our athletes to an audience deeply invested in physical health and rehabilitation.

Volunteer Support

Our volunteer team played an essential role in making this event a success. Arriving at 3:00 PM, they assisted in setting up the practice area, ensuring that all equipment was in place and that the environment was conducive for both the players and the spectators. Their support was invaluable in maintaining the smooth flow of activities and creating a welcoming atmosphere for the physiotherapists and other attendees.

Physiotherapists Witnessing the Practice

The presence of numerous physiotherapists added a unique dimension to our practice session. These professionals, experts in physical rehabilitation and therapy, observed our players with keen interest. They were impressed by the athleticism and resilience displayed by our wheelchair basketball team. The interaction between our players and the physiotherapists provided a mutually enriching experience, where sports and therapy intersected.

Highlights of the Practice

During the practice session, our players focused on various drills and exercises, demonstrating their agility, coordination, and teamwork. The session included shooting, passing, and defensive drills, all performed with precision and energy. One of the highlights was seeing the players’ adaptability and skill, which left a lasting impression on the conference attendees.

Inspirational Impact

For the physiotherapists attending the conference, witnessing our wheelchair basketball practice was more than just an observation. It was an inspiring testament to the power of sports in rehabilitation and the importance of physical activity for individuals with disabilities. Many physiotherapists expressed their admiration for the players and the Sittruli organization, noting how such initiatives can greatly contribute to the overall well-being and empowerment of people with physical challenges.

Looking Forward

This unique event underscored the importance of collaboration between different fields to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. We are grateful to Ganga Hospitals for this opportunity and to our volunteers and players for their unwavering commitment. As we continue our journey, we look forward to more such opportunities where we can showcase the talents of our athletes and inspire others through the power of sports.

Thank you to everyone who supported us, and a special thanks to the physiotherapists who joined us. Your presence and encouragement mean the world to our team. Together, we are breaking barriers and setting new standards for inclusivity and excellence in sports.
