Celebrating 7 Years of Sittruli: Marking Our Greatest Achievements [17.08.2024]

As we celebrate seven successful years of Sittruli, it’s a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve undertaken and the milestones that have defined our path. Each year has brought new challenges, achievements, and memories that have shaped us into the thriving community we are today.

1. Establishment and Growth of Sittruli

Sittruli started as a small initiative with a big dream: to empower individuals with disabilities through the sport of wheelchair basketball. From the beginning, our focus has been on inclusivity, teamwork, and breaking down barriers. Over the years, we have grown from a single team to multiple teams across different regions, creating opportunities for many to experience the joy and camaraderie of the sport.

2. Recognition in the South Zone Wheelchair Basketball Championship

One of our most significant achievements has been our consistent participation and success in the South Zone Wheelchair Basketball Championship. Our players have not only competed but have also excelled, with teams from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, and Pondicherry recognizing our strength on the court. We’ve seen our players secure top positions, making Sittruli a name to reckon with in the wheelchair basketball community.

 3. Empowerment of Women in Wheelchair Basketball

In recent years, we’ve made significant strides in empowering women athletes. The establishment of women’s teams and their participation in major tournaments has been a highlight. We’ve also been working diligently to secure accommodations in Erode, allowing our women players to train and compete with the best facilities available. This focus on female empowerment has been a cornerstone of our mission, and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made.

4. Training Camps and Expert Coaching

Our commitment to excellence has driven us to continuously improve our training programs. The introduction of expert fitness trainers like Usha in our Coimbatore camp has elevated the level of preparation our players receive. These training camps have become breeding grounds for talent, helping our players hone their skills, improve their fitness, and develop the mental toughness needed to compete at the highest levels.

5. Community Engagement and Support

The success of Sittruli is not just about winning matches; it’s also about building a strong community. Our volunteer network, including the Vellalar NCC, has played a crucial role in supporting our players during tournaments and events. Whether it’s helping with logistics, providing moral support, or assisting in the day-to-day operations, our volunteers are the backbone of Sittruli. Their dedication has allowed us to expand our reach and impact more lives.

6. Honoring Our Heroes

Recognition and celebration of our players’ achievements have been central to our community. A recent highlight is the upcoming plan to honor Imran during the Independence Day celebrations in Erode. Imran’s representation of the state team in the South Zone Championship is a testament to his hard work and dedication. The event, where the Collector will present him with a state certificate, is not just a personal milestone for Imran but also a proud moment for all of Sittruli.

7. Innovations and New Techniques

Innovation has always been at the heart of Sittruli’s training philosophy. Over the years, we’ve introduced new techniques and strategies to stay ahead of the competition. Our training sessions are not just about physical fitness but also about mental agility and tactical awareness. Learning new tricks, adapting to evolving game strategies, and continuously seeking to improve are part of what makes Sittruli a formidable force on the court.

Looking Forward

As we look back on these seven years, we also look forward to the future with hope and determination. There’s still so much more to achieve, more lives to touch, and more barriers to break. The road ahead is filled with opportunities, and with the strong foundation we’ve built, we are ready to take on new challenges.

Sittruli’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, teamwork, and community support. We thank everyone who has been part of this incredible journey—our players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, and fans. Here’s to many more years of success, growth, and making a difference in the world of wheelchair basketball.

Innovative Training Approaches and Weekend Team Rotations at Sittruli

At Sittruli, we are always exploring new ways to keep our athletes motivated and engaged, especially during challenging times. While our on-ground training sessions have faced some limitations recently, our players have shown incredible resilience and adaptability by incorporating home workouts into their routines. One of the key tools they’ve been using is the Tera band, which helps in maintaining strength, flexibility, and endurance from the comfort of their homes.

Home Workouts with Tera Band

Our players have embraced the Tera band as an effective way to continue their training despite the constraints. These bands are versatile and provide varying levels of resistance, allowing athletes to perform a wide range of exercises that target different muscle groups. By integrating Tera band exercises into their daily routines, our athletes are ensuring they stay in top physical condition and are ready to hit the court when regular training resumes.

Weekend Training Rotations

To keep the spirit of teamwork and collaboration alive, we have implemented a new structure for our weekend training sessions. The Sittruli members have been divided into four groups, with each group taking turns to lead the training for a week. This rotation system ensures that every group has the opportunity to plan, organize, and execute the training sessions, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among all members.

Group Assignments and Team Enthusiasm

Each group is assigned a name that reflects our vision and mission, serving as a constant reminder of the values we uphold. These names are not just symbolic; they are meant to inspire and motivate the team members to embody the spirit and dedication that Sittruli stands for.

Awarding the Best Team

To further encourage enthusiasm and commitment, the best-performing group each month will be recognized and awarded by the organization. The criteria for selection include teamwork, creativity in training approaches, adherence to our vision and mission, and overall contribution to the positive atmosphere of our training sessions. This initiative aims to foster healthy competition and continuous improvement among our members.

Looking Forward

Despite the current challenges, our athletes’ dedication and adaptability have been truly inspiring. By maintaining their fitness through home workouts and participating in the weekend training rotations, they continue to demonstrate the resilience and unity that define Sittruli. We look forward to resuming our regular training sessions and witnessing the remarkable progress our athletes have made during this period.

In conclusion, the innovative training approaches and structured weekend rotations have not only kept our athletes in shape but also strengthened the bonds within our team. We are proud of their unwavering commitment and excited to see the continued growth and success of our athletes. Together, we will overcome any obstacles and achieve great heights in wheelchair basketball and beyond.

Elevating Skills and Spirit: A Week of Self-Races and New Tricks in Wheelchair Basketball Training

In the dynamic realm of wheelchair basketball training, this week unfolded with a blend of spirited competitions and insightful learning moments. As players took charge of their own momentum during free time, a spontaneous self-race emerged, setting the stage for an exhilarating display of athleticism. Meanwhile, a new trick took center stage as players delved into the nuances of backcourt violation, enriching their understanding of the game’s intricacies.

Self-Races:

During a well-deserved water break, four players took it upon themselves to ignite their competitive spirits with an impromptu race along the length of the court. Their self-initiated challenge exemplified their passion for the game and their drive to push boundaries even during downtime. Inspired by their enthusiasm, the coach rallied everyone for an official race, transforming a brief moment of recreation into a collective display of athleticism and camaraderie.

Today’s Race Results:

– Tamil Velusamy: 18.73 seconds

– ImRan: 19.21 seconds

– Suresh Kumar P.: 21.22 seconds

The self-races not only showcased individual speed and agility but also fostered a sense of unity and shared accomplishment among the players. As each participant crossed the finish line, they celebrated not only their personal achievements but also the collective spirit of their team.

Exploring Backcourt Violation:

Amidst the spirited races, players delved into the nuances of backcourt violation, a fundamental concept in wheelchair basketball gameplay. Through dedicated research and practical application, players gained a deeper understanding of the rules governing ball possession and court positioning. Backcourt violation occurs when an offensive player with the ball crosses the midcourt line and returns to the backcourt without the ball being deflected by the opposing team or without any other circumstance that nullifies the violation. This newfound knowledge empowers players to make informed decisions on the court and enhances their overall gameplay strategy.

As players honed their skills and expanded their wheelchair basketball knowledge, the week proved to be a testament to their unwavering dedication and thirst for improvement. Through self-initiated challenges and exploration of new techniques, they not only elevated their individual abilities but also strengthened the bond of camaraderie that defines their team. As they continue their wheelchair basketball journey, fueled by the lessons learned and experiences shared, they stand poised to conquer new heights of success and achievement.

Embracing Challenges: Practicing Wheelchair Basketball in Adverse Conditions

Rainy days can be a challenge, but for our dedicated wheelchair basketball players, they present an opportunity to push their limits and adapt to new conditions. This week, our practice session took an unexpected turn when the skies opened up, and fewer players were able to turn out. However, rather than seeing this as a setback, we transformed it into a valuable training experience.

Learning from Past Experiences:

Last year, we faced a similar situation when a sudden downpour led to a short match with volunteers. This year, we embraced the rain and its unique challenges head-on. The players practiced with wet balls, an essential skill for real-game scenarios where conditions may be less than ideal. Handling a wet ball requires extra concentration, strength, and coordination, and our team rose to the occasion with remarkable enthusiasm.

Building Mental Toughness:

The players worked diligently, focusing on passing, dribbling, and shooting despite the slippery conditions. This practice was not just about physical skill but also about mental toughness. By learning to adapt to wet conditions, our players are becoming more versatile and resilient, ready to face any challenge that comes their way during actual games.

Spotlight on Star Player: Imran

Imran, one of our star players, particularly stood out during this session. His determination and skill shone through as he effortlessly managed to basket with the wet ball, setting an inspiring example for the entire team. His performance highlighted the importance of these challenging practice sessions and how they prepare our athletes for the unexpected.

Unwavering Support:

As the rain continued, the players’ spirits remained high. They knew that overcoming these conditions would make them stronger and more capable athletes. Each pass, dribble, and shot taken with a wet ball brought them closer to mastering their craft under any circumstance. We also want to acknowledge the incredible support from our volunteers and the families of our players who cheered them on despite the rain. Their encouragement is invaluable and contributes significantly to the positive and determined atmosphere of our training sessions.

In conclusion, rainy days and wet basketballs are not obstacles but opportunities for growth and improvement. Our players are now better equipped to handle adverse conditions, and their resilience is a testament to their dedication and love for the game. We look forward to seeing how these challenging practice sessions translate into stellar performances on the court. With every drop of rain, our team’s bond and skills are strengthened, ensuring they are ready for anything that comes their way.
